Edward Snowden Charged with espionage and theft of government property. Snowden is a computer specialist, former employee of the Central Intelligence Agency, and former contractor for the National Security Agency. He disclosed thousands of classified documents revealing details of global surveillance programs. He currently lives in an undisclosed location in Russia; he is considered a fugitive by American authorities. United States

A leghíresebb kortárs kínai művész Ai Weiwei nagyon rá van pörögve a kockákra mostanában. Legutóbb egy legós balhé miatt került a hírekbe, most pedig az Instagramján posztolt egy sor négybitesre kockázott portrét a történelem híres lázadóiról.

Martin Luther King és Edward Snowden mellett kevésbé ismert olyan arcok is előkerülnek, akik az eltérő gondolkodásuk miatt váltak üldözötté a saját hazájukban. A szintén disszidáns helyzetben lévő Ai Weiwei néhány sorban ismerteti a képeket szereplők viselt dolgait is, így egy – főleg kortárs – történelmi gyorstalpalóként is felfogható a projekt.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Arrested 30 times, charged with calling for and participating in illegal gatherings. King was a clergyman, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African American Civil Rights Movement; he is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was assassinated in 1968. United States

Ho Thi Bich Khuong Convicted of conducting propaganda against the state. Khuong is a longtime social justice activist. She has published accounts of human rights violations against the rural poor and taken part in protests about land rights. She was previously imprisoned for two years. In 2011 she was sentenced to five years in prison and three years house arrest. Vietnam

Liu Xiaobo Arrested for inciting subversion of state power. Liu is a writer, professor, and human rights activist who has called for political reforms and the end of communist single-party rule. He was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize for “his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China.” In December 2009 he was sentenced to eleven years in prison and two years’ deprivation of political rights. Államhatalom megdöntésére irányuló felbújtás miatt tartóztatták le Ai Weiwei honfitársát, Liu Xiaobót, ami egy másik nézőpontból annyit tett, hogy szeretett volna véget vetni az emberi jogokat tipró egypártrendszernek. 2009-ben 11 év börtönre ítélték, ami a mai napig tart, 2010-ben pedig befigyelt nála is a Nobel-békedíj.

Woubshet Taye Convicted of terrorism. Taye was the deputy editor of the independent weekly The Awramba Times, a leading opposition media voice. He had reported on the Beka! (Enough!) movement in 2011 that called for peaceful protests. He was detained in 2011 and held incommunicado before being sentenced to 14 years in prison. Ethiopia

Az etióp Woubshet Taye-t 14 évre varrták be terrorizmusért. A másik narratíva szerint úgy szól a bűne, hogy a legnagyobb ellenzéki hetilapnál dolgozott, illetve mozgalmárként is a demokrácia érdekében ügyködött. 

És így tovább.

Ha mélyebben beleásnád magad az emberi jogok harcosainak a világába, akkor Ai Weiwei Instagramján jó pár hasonló arcot megismerhetsz.
